Gearbox change

Post by wattaname »

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I have a 29 Clifton with a gate change gearbox is it possible to change the gearbox to a ball change, are there any differences or advantages to either box apart from the obvious? Thank you.

Hi, Did you ever do this? I have just bought a ball change box with a view to changing it for my gate change when I do the clutch, mine is also a 1929 Clifton. I have already upset the purists by suggesting it in the 12/4 facebook group, however, it's my car I paid for it, and I have always tweaked pre war cars for driveability over the last 45 years. It would be a totally reversable mod.

Hi, thanks for your reply, sorry only just seen it.
No I haven't changes the gearbox it was just an idea I was mulling over as the ball change seem to be more plentiful and cheaper than the gate, luckily my gate change seen to be fine at the moment.

Thanks mac, I have a gearbox but haven't decided what to do. I might go for a gear lever extension.
