fx3 austin taxi

Have been to see a fx3 project I am interested in. To my eyes it's solid but needs a lot of attention. The corrosion in the doors is not terrible. Chassis are solid. Some rot to the body sides underneath but only at the edges. Seems to have all the parts and extras. The 'fitted' engine (which smokes and is not fully connected to throttle) is a fx4 however it does come with a fx3 engine which may or may not be ok
.
It's not UK registered as it's been an international traveller.
Now this is not a question about value (as it's always what people are willing to pay for this type of car)
However am I setting myself up for serious costs with the engine.
