When I take off the two cover plates covering the tappets and valve stems there is A LOT of oil inside. I suspect some of this is getting into chambers 3 & 4 as the plugs get oil-fouled yet the compression is evenly about 78 on all four cylinders. Could valve guides be at fault? And could I change them myself with no specialist tools such as a press? Why are the tappets so very oily? Is that normal?
