water pump gland nut 12/4

Post by colin »

I need to loosen off gland nut to fix leak but the nut is backed tight to pump casing. Which direction to undo please, say facing to rear of car ?

Hello Colin
It's a left hand thread. It's made this way so that normal engine and water pump/magneto rotation would tend to tighten rather than loosen the gland nut. So looking forwards towards the radiator, turn the nut clockwise to loosen.

Best Regards

Thank you Martin, your a star. The gland nut was really tight and I was concerned about going the wrong way and then damaging the brass castellated nut. All free now and correct, not leaking on the garage floor, ready for a test run. Thank you.
