A12/4 fitting felts to brake rod fork.

Post by austinbrit »

Has anyone got an easy way of fitting the 2 No felts that are needed for each brake rod fork.
One is easy to fit but the second one is always a struggle and usually gets very scrunched.
I enclose a pic of used parts to show what I mean, I hope.
Thanks
Paul

The solution which worked for me was to soak the felts in engine oil then squeeze them tightly in a smooth jaw vice for a few minutes. They then become fairly rigid. Have everything prepared then quickly fit them before they expand. A tapered punch, or similar, will help align all components making the fitting of the pin easier.
