Check the clutch plate

Post by Humphrey47 »

Always wondered why there was so much clutch judder. Took the decision to change the old greasy linings and found that the pressure plate was distorted. Unable to get it machined locally, I found an unused brake disc which, with the aid of engineers blue, used an angle grinder until all the high spots were all levelled. Very pleased with the results. It would have been a lot easier to get it reground, but that was not an option.
The diameter is around 10.6", so outside the scope of most small lathes.

Sadly, after all that work, the judder is still there. Any tips for correcting? I expect to take the gearbox off again. :(
