1929 A12/4 side loading fuel tank

Post by austinbrit »

When I came to inspect my petrol tank it made a lot of noise from the rust inside.
So I started to empty it out which is not easy and I havn't completed the task yet.
But enclosed is a pic of what I have extracted so far.
Anyone had a tank overhauled recently?
Paul
Why is it the PC turns the pics upside down...............Grrrrrrrr

When I put my car back on the road after many years laid up the tank was heavily scaled and porous in places. I got some descaler and degreaser and a proprietary tank sealer for petrol.
I removed the tank, took out the level sensor and made a blank. Made a plug for the filler, put some gravel inside and the descaler then shook the tank violently constantly turning it. Emtied it and repeated until no more scale. Then did the same with degreaser (will probably come as a kit with the sealer).
After that I put in the sealer and rotated the tank so that all was coated and then left to dry. I did that in about 1994 and have had no problems since prior to which I was for ever having to stop and clear the suction line.
To be honest I'm surprised it's still OK with the use now of ethanol but it is.
Regards
Simon

Have used it in the Autvac and the fuel doesn't seem to be affecting it.
Have done the petrol tank, but havn't tested it yet.
Thanks
Paul
