Martin - you obv have experience of these troubles! I have a hub/key setup that works loose - with a 'bruised'-looking taper, and slightly widened keyway. The hub/drum isn't bottoming out (and I dressed/ground the 'bruising' as best I could) - so could the problem be too big a key? I guess a replacement halfshaft is the only full remedy, and presumably that means a back axle rebuild - so I'd like to try sorting it first!

Ha, yes, a left hand thread it certainly is. Unfortunately (at the time) I was unaware of this and ended up chiselling the nut off, only to find that on the Lat knockings it simply came off with no effort at all. Fortunately I worked for the London Underground then and was able to get a replacement machined. The car? A 1929 16/6. Jim.
