Hood frame on 12/4

Post by guyr »

Hi all,
Was after any experience others have with the 12/4 tourer hood frames - I must have re welded at least four different attachment points so far since owning the car (2years) and one went again at the weekend. They seem to fracture occasionally simply with normal driving. I’m proficient with taking the hood up and down, so I don’t think I’m straining it in any particular way and in any case it’s mostly just ‘down’, although all fractures have occurred when the hood has been raised. I wondered whether this is a common fault with the frames or I just have a ‘Friday afternoon’ one...?

Had a 1928 Clifton for 17 years and no problem with the mechanism, are you sure yours is an original frame and not one remanufactured by some one?
( my wife would not have another Clifton because she was always aware of someone "helping" to put down the hood and getting their fingers caught).
