Re: Shock Absorbers

Take one end off and physically try them. They should be easier in one direction so that the rebound is less than the other. They have been installed upside down if the wing nut is on top. New linings are available from the club.

Re: Upper Cylinder Lubricant

Interesting result. I am making my own pisions for my 16/6 and have been reading about thinner rings which can be less than a mm thick. One oil ring is now considered standard as there is no vertical play due to the expander ring thus avoiding "pumping". The main reason of all this is to a...

Re: Upper Cylinder Lubricant

I have never used the stuff since Redex was sold on the forecourt, but you could try two stroke oil. Readily available.

Re: Balancing the brakes

The only way that works for me is to jack up all round and adjust all the wheels so they just grip and then when all is even, release the central adjuster.

Re: Bushes for brake shoe hinge pins

I think that the perceived lack of bushes may be due to the fact that they are made from zinc sheet and not actually visible like if they were yellow metal.

Re: Rear hub felt rings/seal for a 1930 12/4 Eton

I just put a new large bearing in a front hub. It was sealed so I threw out the leather seal. The rears could benefit the same. The bearing is 60mm x 110 x 20 and only cost £12 from Bearingboys.co.uk. Much cheaper than new seals and repairs - no maintenance either. Happy days.

Re: Rear hub felt rings/seal for a 1930 12/4 Eton

https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/Engineering-Parts-Shaft-Repair-Sleeves-Imperial-Shaft-Repair-Sleeves/c4713_4847_4850/index.html This is the correct size for the seal, but until you can check the rear axle casing, welding may be needed to rebuild the surfaces and the seal could be done the same way...

Check the clutch plate

Always wondered why there was so much clutch judder. Took the decision to change the old greasy linings and found that the pressure plate was distorted. Unable to get it machined locally, I found an unused brake disc which, with the aid of engineers blue, used an angle grinder until all the high spo...

16/6 tappet followers

Just made a jig for regrinding the 3/8" radius on the tappet followers. The reason for the radius is in the design of the camshaft which would be a problem inserting into the engine - the designers got over the problem by radiusing the followers. Contact me if you need yours done.

Re: Piston pin clamp

Had second thoughts and redid it with tab washers and loctite threadlock.
