Wobbling Rear Brake Drum

I am building a very special Austin 12/4 and have finally got it’s modified Prop-shaft fitted ( it’s from a old Morris Marina to do away with the cloth coupling at the gearbox). I ran the engine with the car in 4th gear and the rear wheels raised off the ground and find that the off side rear brake ...

Re: Restoration of Arthur & Ada - a Tale of two Austins.

Arthur is now a rolling chassis and was seen at the last VAR National Rally in 2019. Re: For Sale Austin 1927 12/4 parts or project

It would be sad to see this car broken for spares as it has survived so long.
But if somebody wants the rolling chassis and engine etc, I would be very interested in just the body as I have a restored chassis waiting for a body to be found or made.

Re: 12/4 will not start / run correctly

Latest update. I gave up with the Zenith Carb and fitted an 1 1/4“ SU Carb which I am more familiar with. Still will not start. Not trusting the old magneto I made up a mounting for a Lucas distributor & fitted. It still will not run ( I know it is wasted spark as it runs at the same rotation as the...

Re: 12/4 will not start / run correctly

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I have just come in from having another try - it is now running on all 4 cylinders, but still with back pressure through the carb. I’m thinking maybe the head gasket may be passing between the pots? It was an old gasket - or maybe I have not set the valve clearance...

12/4 will not start / run correctly

I have a 1928 12/4 which I am restoring as a special as it came to me without a body. I have spent literally days trying to get it to run correctly. The valve timing is correct - No 1 at TDC with both valves closed and No 4 inlet valve just about to open. I have adjusted the clearances. I have set t...

Re: Wheel painting

I had mine shot blasted & power coated in zinc phosphate primer then gave them a coat of Tractol 916 black primer then 2 coats of Tractol Black Gloss which I warmed up with a blow lamp until it was steaming hot. It’s too thick when cold.

Re: Brake plungers

I had the same problem when stripping my front axle You need to remove the cable arm and then remove the cam lever shaft from the swivel hub. Then push up the brake shoe wedge and hold down the brass collet retainer with long nose pliers and remove the 2 split collets similar to those holding the va...
