Re: Water pump failure
Another thing to check is that the cooling water is able to freely circulate through the water passages in the block, and that they are not restricted by a build up of “crud”. I had this problem on my 12/4 heavy, everything fine until under load climbing hills on a warm day. I flushed out the block ...

Re: Drain Tap on side of block
Totally agree Martin. I did actually order a blanking plug but it took longer than expected to arrive, so I ended up putting the old drain tap back in. Maybe I will swop it for the plug next time I drain the block.

Re: Drain Tap on side of block
The drain tap i believe should be 1/8 BSP. I used a 1/8 BSP helicoil type thread repair to fix the same isssue on my 12/4. You will need to take the carburettor off to get access to fit the helicoil making sure you get it in square to the block. The drain tap has a very small hole that is useless if...

Woolaton 2017
Some photos of the rally at Woolaton. Thank you to those that organised it and those that travelled with their cars. A good venue with plenty to do. Shame there was no pre circulated information about the timing of the judging and award of prizes as many may have missed this. https://goo.gl/photos/W...

Re: Bushes for brake shoe hinge pins
Thought I would give an update. All attempts at modifying off the shelf bushes both wrapped and oilite types failed. So I got myself some bronze bar and made some up on the lathe from scratch. They are now fitted. There seems to be a question as to whether bushes were in fact fitted originally as I ...

Re: Kingpin Removal
I can't give you any specific advice on how to removes the kingpins but if you have not already done so I would invest in the Workshop instructions available from the VAR spares. It has lots of useful information including kingpin renewal for a 12/4 heavy taxi which is similar to the 12/4 heavy. It ...

Re: ANTI FREEZE
For once it's hard to beat Halfords blue. The main thing to ensure is that you pick an IAT (inorganic Acid Tecnology) based product. The Halfords one is silicate based. Modern OAT and HAT anti freezes go for lead solder and other metals found in vintage cars which is not good news. Modern anti freez...

Bushes for brake shoe hinge pins
Living in a hilly area I am trying to improve the stopping power of my 1927 12/4 by renewing various worn parts. Does anyone know a source of the front brake shoe hinge pin bushes part number AM238? It is not a part stocked by VAR. As far as I can tell they are 7/16 Id x 1/2 od x 7/8 wide. The close...
