20/4 Clutch Cover

My clutch cover looks like it has paid a visit to a somewhat incompetent dentist!
Does anyone have a spare clutch cover with good teeth to fit a 1927 20/4 please?
Starting this thing on the handle is not doing my ancient back and arms any good at all.

Best Regards

Re: Drag Link Play

Hello Jonathan
If it's N/S did you mean track rod rather than drag link? So far as I'm aware horizontal play can be adjusted with shims. Vertical play would suggest excessive wear. Whilst it may be possible to cure the problem by lapping in with grinding paste I would recommend changing the ball and ...

Re: not charging

Hello Colin
The short answer is "No".
A longer answer is "Maybe, it depends on the wattage of the bulb".

Here goes with an even longer answer!

I am assuming you have the 3-brush 12volt dynamo system as fitted by Austin although this applies equally well to the 6volt cars.

The terminals are ...

Re: Torque amount for Austin 12/4 Cylinder Head Bolts

Hello Andrew
This has been discussed at some length before.
If you were to ask ten people this question it is more than likely you will receive ten different answers!
Can I suggest you read the thread headed "Torque Setting" posted on 27 Oct 2016?
I hope this offers some enlightenment!

Re: 12/4 carb

Hello Dave
With new correct sized jets fitted and still misbehaving I would suspect an air leak.
A leak within the carb would be unlikely unless the butterfly spindle and bushes are badly worn.
Is the carb to manifold gasket OK?
Manifold to Autovac vacuum pipe?
Autovac air valves?

Re: FUEL LOSS

Hello Paul
The design of the Autovac is such that siphoning back to the tank is simply not possible. There is a non-return valve in the petrol feed pipe, an air gap of about 2inches between the feed pipe and the petrol level in the full Autovac and an air vent in the Autovac lid which would break ...

Re: 20/6 1927 exhaust

Slinden Services in Measham (https://www.castironweldingrepairs.co.uk/) did an excellent repair on my 20/4 starter motor bearing housing, but there must be specialist welders closer to W Sussex than Leicestershire.

Re: Spark Plugs

When I took custody of my 20/4 in 2007 it came fitted with a set of NGK AB6. In the box of spares that came with the car was a full box of AB6's. It seemed to run OK initially but after a few miles I was plagued with an intermittent misfire and poor running at idle. I could not find anything wrong ...

Re: water pump gland nut 12/4

Hello Colin
It's a left hand thread. It's made this way so that normal engine and water pump/magneto rotation would tend to tighten rather than loosen the gland nut. So looking forwards towards the radiator, turn the nut clockwise to loosen.
